Meet the new BCS officers and committee members 2026

During the 2026 BCS Membership Elections, 16 new officers and committee members were elected to role and officially welcomed at the 2026 BCS AGM, held on Wednesday 3 June at our Annual Conference.

Dr Fozia Ahmed, Women in Cardiology Co-Chair and Programme Lead

“I am thrilled to be appointed as co-Chair of the British Cardiovascular Society Women in Cardiology committee, and I look forward to working with Dr Keteepe-Arachi to remove barriers and advance opportunities for women in cardiology, helping to attract, support and retain talent within the specialty.”

Dr Louise Buchanan, Vice-President for Education

“I am absolutely delighted to have been elected as the new VP for Education and a huge thank you to Dr Shouvik Haldar for his exceptional work over the last 3 years. I am looking forward to working collaboratively with BCS colleagues to deliver high-quality, accessible education for our entire cardiovascular community.”

Dr Naeimeh Hosseini, Professional and Society Values Committee

“I am honoured to join the BCS Professional and Society Values Committee. I am passionate about fostering a culture in which everyone feels seen, heard, safe, and supported, and I look forward to working with colleagues to promote inclusion, equity, and respect across our profession.”

Dr Angela Hoye, Guidelines and Practice Committee

“It’s an absolute honour to be elected on to the Guidelines and Practice Committee and I’m extremely grateful to everyone who voted for me. I recognise the importance of all of the Society’s committee work and hope that my enthusiasm for this role, together with my strong clinical and academic background, will enable me to contribute in a meaningful way to the valuable work that this group undertakes.”

Dr Tevfik Ismail, Clinical Standards Committee

“It was very humbling to be entrusted by members and colleagues with this important role. I look forward to working hard with other members of the team for the Society and on behalf of our patients.”

Dr Tracey Keteepe-Arachi, Women in Cardiology Co-Chair and Programme Lead

“I’m delighted to have been elected as Co-Chair of the BCS Women in Cardiology Committee. During much of my training I had very few female mentors, and it was only later in my career that I fully appreciated the value of having supportive women role models within the specialty. That experience has shaped how important I believe mentorship, representation and sponsorship are for women in cardiology. I hope to bring a practical and collaborative approach to the role, helping to support women at all stages of their careers and foster a more inclusive and supportive culture within cardiology.”

Dr Khawaya Aamer Mushtaq, Programme Committee

“I am delighted to have been elected to the British Cardiovascular Society Programme Committee. It is a privilege to contribute to a society that plays such an important role in cardiovascular education and research. During my tenure, I look forward to contributing to high-quality educational and scientific programmes, supporting collaboration across the cardiovascular community, and representing the interests of trainees and early-career cardiologists.”

Dr Francesco Papalia, Vice-President for Corporate Finance and Development Elect

“I am delighted to take up the role of VP Corporate Finance and Development. I plan to continue the great work that my predecessors have done, to keep the BCS on a sound financial footing, which will in turn enable us to support the profession through the activities of the Society.”

Prof Riyaz Patel, Guidelines and Practice Committee

“I’m honoured to have been elected to the BCS Guidelines and Practice Committee and grateful to members for their support. I’m looking forward to working with BCS colleagues to ensure our guidelines have real-world impact – and that reducing health inequalities is embedded in everything we do.”

Dr Michaele Scheuermann-Freestone, Women in Cardiology Committee

“I feel incredibly humbled and honoured to have been elected to the WiC committee! I really look forward to support the group with all I can give and I am keen to support our female trainers but also our female trainees in all issues we come across in our work life. I am equally keen to support our male colleagues and to take them with us on our journey to boost female excellence in Cardiology!”

Dr Vinoda Sharma, Women in Cardiology Committee

“I am delighted to be elected to the Women in Cardiology committee of the British Cardiovascular Society. I think my experience as an Interventional Cardiologist navigating situations that do not have very many women in the field will help especially as a mentor. I look forward to working with the fantastic team and how we can support each other.”

Dr Peter Wilkinson, Environment and Sustainability Committee

“I am delighted to be elected to the Environment & Sustainability Committee.

The current record heat in the UK and Europe emphasises the crucial importance of reducing carbon emissions and for all of us as individuals, health care professionals and organisations to lead more sustainable lives. “

We also welcomed Dr Ceri Davies to the Clinical Standards Committee, Dr Jamal Khan to the Education Committee, and Dr Balrik Kailey to the Finance Committee.
