We were pleased to announce that Professor Andrew Clark was named BCS President Elect at this year’s AGM, which took place on Wednesday 3 June at our Annual Conference in Manchester.
Professor André Ng MBE sFBCS, BCS President said: “I am delighted to welcome Professor Andrew Clark as future BCS President. Andrew has served the BCS in several roles along the years, including as an elected member of Council, and the Programme Committee chair for the past three years, leading the charge of well-attended and educationally-rich conferences.
I have every confidence that Andrew will do an outstanding job in leading the Society forward and building on the excellent work already underway across so many areas. I am sure he will bring his own vision and distinctive style to the role, while serving as an exceptional ambassador for the BCS and strengthening our position as the leading voice and face of cardiology in the UK and beyond.”
When asked about this elected role, Professor Andrew Clark said: “I’ve been a proud member of the BCS since my days as a very junior tremulous registrar presenting abstracts at conference to the terrifying senior members of the society. Those experiences have made me appreciate that the dramatic advances in the management of patients with cardiac disease I’ve seen in my practicing lifetime happened and spread across the country because of the BCS. Being elected to the presidency is the greatest honour of my professional life. I look forward to meeting the challenges of the role and attempting to fill the shoes of the giants who have come before me.”
Professor Clark will be in post as President Elect until June 2027. The role of President Elect was designed with a smoother transition in mind, to give the current President an opportunity to discuss the many activities of the BCS, as well as our strategy, with the incoming President before the official handover date. Further to our June 2027 AGM, Professor Clark will then be your new BCS President, from 2027 until 2030.
