Having previously been run in 2022, BCS and the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (VCACC) have announced they are offering the International Exchange programme again in 2025.
The BCS-VCACC relationship was formed through a desire of both organisations to develop long-term relationships between cardiovascular professionals in the United States and the United Kingdom. The partnership brings members from both nations together to learn about advances in CV science and exchange ideas on quality programming and health systems.
Fellowship Details
The program will support four current resident doctors or early career cardiologists from the UK (out of training for less than seven years) who will visit, learn, and experience the American healthcare landscape, an imaging rotation (MRI, CT, and Echo), and the CV community. The program is fully funded for the successful applicants and includes the provisional schedule:
- Saturday 8 November – Depart UK, arrive in Washington, DC
- Sunday 9 November – Sightseeing/social event
- Monday 10 November – Rotation in Imaging at University of Virginia
- Tuesday 11 November – Rotation in Imaging at University of Virginia
- Wednesday 12 November – Travel to Washington, DC
- Thursday 13 November – Hospital tour
- Friday 14 November – Sightseeing/social event
- Saturday 15 November – Opening cocktail reception for Mid-Atlantic Capitol Cardiology Symposium (MACCS), Heart House
- Sunday 16 November – MACCS
- Sunday 16 November/Monday 17 November – Depart Washington, arrive back in UK
Selection criteria
We encourage applications from senior cardiology resident doctors or early career cardiologists sub-specialising in cardiac imaging, who are ordinary, associate BJCA or affiliated BCSmembers.
As part of their application, applicants will be asked to describe:
- their current skills, experience, and competencies relevant to the programme
- their specific learning needs and objectives
- how they plan to consolidate and implement the knowledge gained for their patients
Applications will be judged by senior leadership of the BCS, and four successful candidates will be selected.
