Professor John Cleland, Mackenzie Medal recipient, awarded ESC Gold Medal

The British Cardiovascular Society was delighted to hear that Professor John Cleland was awarded the ESC Gold Medal, at the ESC Annual Congress in Munich. The ESC Gold Medal recognises outstanding contributions to cardiovascular medicine.

Professor André Ng MBE, BCS President, who was present for the medal ceremony, said: “This could not be a more well-deserved recognition for Professor Cleland, and not at all a surprise to see the ESC Gold Medal go to one of our Mackenzie Medal recipients. Many congratulations to you, John!”

Professor Cleland is also the recipient of the Mackenzie Medal, which is the highest honour awarded by the British Cardiovascular Society, in recognition of outstanding service to British cardiology. Professor Cleland was one of the two recipients of the Mackenzie Medal in 2025.
