How We Work

BCS Council

BCS Council is the committee by which the society engages with its membership (via the elected members) including Scotland, Wales and Northen Ireland and its Affiliated Societies. Its role is to draw together the combined expertise and influence to support the objectives of the society and the delivery of cardiology to improve patient care.

Operational Management

Operational management of the strategy is delegated to the Operational and Professional Executive committees, which meet regularly during the year, and through our CEO, who works closely with the Board and executive committees to put the strategy into practice.

The SAC for Cardiology is a sub-committee of the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians’ Training Board, chaired by the BCS Vice-President for Training and administered by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK. The committee develops cardiology curricula, methods of performance assessment and criteria, contributes to quality management of specialist training, and assesses trainees and applications for entry into the specialist register. The SAC includes Heads of Specialty Training from each area where training is delivered (normally the Training Programme Director) and representatives from the medical Royal Colleges, specialty societies, postgraduate deaneries and resident doctors.
