The Education Zone offers a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on training sessions led by experienced practitioners and industry representatives. Sessions are delivered in a 2:1 format to suit each delegate’s specific learning needs.
Sessions are free of charge and exclusively available to registered ticket holders of the BCS Annual Conference 2026.
New for 2026
We’ve expanded the Education Zone for 2026 with exciting new sessions and increased availability across some of our most popular training areas. New additions this year include:
- Right Heart Catheterisation training
- Temporary Pacing training
- Real-life CMR scanning on a mobile MRI scanner
- Increased number of sessions available for imaging training and pericardiocentesis
- Imaging Masterclasses
Suitability
There are sessions suitable for all levels of clinical experience – from early-career healthcare professionals to those exploring the latest cutting-edge techniques. Some sessions have additional eligibility criteria – please check individual session details before booking.
Sessions are designed for qualified healthcare professionals and are not suitable for medical students or non-healthcare professionals.
Practical Information
- Sessions are located in the Education Hall and last approximately 1 hour
- A certificate of attendance is provided after sucessful completion of the training session. This certificate can be incorporated into the trainee’s NHS ePortfolio and linked to the appropriate part of the curriculum
- Sessions are popular and places are limited. Anyone wishing to partake is strongly advised to book sessions as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
The Education Zone is split into two areas:
The Imaging Village, where the full range of multimodality cardiac imaging will be on offer, and the Simulator Village, which offers immersive, hands-on simulation training.
In the Imaging Village you will also find the ‘Imaging Masterclasses’ – special small-group workshops that provide teaching, tips and tricks on a range of important imaging topics delivered by experts from national and international imaging societies.
Imaging Village
We offer unique training opportunities in Cardiac Imaging to colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds and grades.
Sessions will cover normal cases and a wide range of pathologies and indications for each modality. They will be aligned with the JRCPTB Cardiology training curriculum and curricula for those training for accreditation in TTE, TOE, Stress Echo, CMR, CT and Nuclear Cardiology with British and International Imaging Societies.
These sessions are suitable for:
- Those practicing in Cardiology: Cardiology SHOs/IMTs, Cardiology SpRs/IMT3/ST3-8, Cardiology Clinical Fellows, Consultant Cardiologists
- Non-Cardiology doctors: Radiology SpRs/Consultants, Acute Medicine SpRs/Consultants, Nuclear Medicine Physicians, Intensive Care/Anaesthetics Doctors, General Practitioners
- Other allied health professionals: Cardiac Clinical Physiologists, Cardiac Radiographers, Cardiology Nurses
Imaging Masterclasses
These special, small-group practical workshops will provide image acquisition and analysis teaching as well as tips on a range of important imaging topics:
- TTE: Adult Congenital Heart Disease Echo, 3D Echo, Strain Echo, Critical Care Echo
- Stress Echo: Dobutamine Stress Echo, Exercise Stress Echo Valve Assessment
- TOE: Tricky/Unconventional/Contemporary Views, Structural Intervention TOE, 3D TOE
- CT: Perfecting your CTCA Scanning Technique, TAVI CT, and more!
- CMR: Stress MRI, Optimising CMR Scanning/Image Quality, and more!
- Imaging mentoring
They are an ideal chance for delegates to engage with inspiring cardiac imaging experts for mentoring, careers advice, navigating cardiac imaging training, and achieving success as a cardiac imager.

Simulator Village
We’re delighted to offer a wide range of hands-on simulation training in the ‘Simulator Village’.
This year we are especially excited to be expanding our offering to include Temporary Pacing and Right Heart Catheterisation (RHC) training.
In the Simulator Village, you can receive personalised training in:
- TAVI
- ASD/PFO
- Electrophysiology
- Pacing
- Pericardiocentesis
- PCI
- Right Heart Catheterisation
Where appropriate, the training will follow key objectives tracking to the JRCPTB curriculum for cardiology, but will also be tailored to the experience of the individual so is suitable for all trainees and consultants.
The TAVI, EP, PCI and structural heart stations are particularly geared towards hands-on training for senior interventional trainees/fellows and consultants.
