Education Zone

Located in the Education Hall, the  Education Zone offers a unique opportunity for delegates to engage in hands-on training sessions led by highly experienced practitioners and industry representatives. Sessions are conducted in either 1:1 or 2:1 formats, ensuring they are tailored to meet each delegate’s specific learning needs.

The Education Zone offers sessions suitable for all experience levels—from beginners to those looking to explore the latest, cutting-edge techniques.

Sessions are free of charge and exclusively available to registered ticket holders of the BCS Annual Conference 2025.

Education Zone sessions are approximately 1 hour long, and delegates will receive a certificate of attendance after successful completion of a training session. This certificate can be incorporated into the trainee’s NHS ePortfolio and linked to the appropriate part of the curriculum.

Please note sessions are popular and places are limited. Anyone wishing to partake is strongly advised to book session(s) as early as possible to avoid disappointment. Please note there will be no drop-in sessions available.

Registration

Sessions are free of charge and exclusively available to registered ticket holders of the BCS Annual Conference 2025

The Education Zone is split into two different areas: the Imaging Village, where the full range of multimodality cardiac imaging will be on offer, and the Simulator Village, which offers immersive, hands-on simulation training.

In the Imaging Village you will also find the ‘Imaging Masterclasses’ – special small-group workshops that provide teaching, tips and tricks on a range of important imaging topics delivered by experts from national and international imaging societies.

Imaging Village

We look forward to offering unique training opportunities in Cardiac Imaging to colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds and grades at the 2025 BCS Annual Conference Education Zone ‘Imaging Village’.

Our audience includes:

(1) Those practicing in Cardiology: Cardiology SHOs/IMTs, Cardiology SpRs/IMT3/ST3-8, Cardiology Clinical Fellows, Consultant Cardiologists

(2) A wide range of non-Cardiology doctors: Radiology SpRs/Consultants, Acute Medicine SpRs/Consultants, Nuclear Medicine Physicians, Intensive Care/Anaesthetics Doctors, General Practitioners

(3) A wide range of allied health professionals: Cardiac Clinical Physiologists, Cardiac Radiographers, Cardiology Nurses

Sessions will cover normal cases and a wide range of pathologies and indications for each modality and will be aligned with the JRCPTB Cardiology training curriculum and curricula for those training for accreditation in TTE, TOE, Stress Echo, CMR, CT and Nuclear Cardiology with British and International Imaging Societies.

New training sessions and opportunities available at the 2025 Imaging Village:

We are excited to introduce a number of new training sessions and learning opportunities for the first time at this year’s Imaging Village. These include:

(a) Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) CMR station

We look forward to being able to offer this station this again this year, which proved very popular in 2023, for those wishing to gain experience in more advanced indications for CMR. This will provide workstation-based training covering CMR image acquisition and post-processing/analysis for ACHD CMR (covering a wide range of pathologies from basic ACHD to complex ACHD [e.g. single-ventricle Fontan cases]).

(b) Practical CT scanning station

We aspire to provide training in both practical image acquisition/scanning and analysis/reporting aspects of modalities offered. Hence, we are excited to introduce a new, ‘Practical CT scanning station’ this year in collaboration with GE. This will allow delegates to have the experience of running a Cardiac CT scanner and image acquisition/optimisation.

(c) 3D Transoesophageal Echocardiography (3D-TOE)

We are excited to be able to offer delegates the chance to gain practical experience and training in 3D TOE image acquisition and manipulation. This is a crucial skill to master in contemporary TOE practice and will be offered at the Surgical Science TOE simulator.

(d) ‘Imaging Masterclasses’

These special, small-group practical workshops will provide image acquisition and analysis teaching, tips and gems on a range of important imaging topics, delivered by experts in these modalities from national and international imaging societies. These were introduced in 2023 and have proved very popular. We look forward to offering these again this year. We will open bookings for these sessions in early May.

  • TTE: Adult Congenital Heart Disease Echo, 3D Echo, Strain Echo, Critical Care Echo
  • Stress Echo: Dobutamine Stress Echo, Exercise Stress Echo Valve Assessment
  • TOE: Tricky/Unconventional/Contemporary Views, Structural Intervention TOE, 3D TOE
  • CT: Perfecting your CTCA Scanning Technique, TAVI CT, and more!
  • CMR: Stress MRI, Optimising CMR Scanning/Image Quality, and more!

(f) ‘Imaging Mentoring’

These special, small-group, interactive workshops will provide a chance for delegates to engage with a wide range of inspiring cardiac imaging experts for mentoring, Q&A, careers advice, and tips on getting into advanced cardiac imaging training, navigating your cardiac imaging training (e.g. tips for accreditation, research, publication) and achieving success as a cardiac imager. We will open bookings for these sessions in early May.

Simulator Village

We’re delighted to offer a wide range of hands-on simulation training in  the ‘Simulator Village’.

This year, you can receive personalised training in :

  • TAVI
  • Structural (ASD/PFO)
  • Electrophysiology
  • Pacing
  • Pericardiocentesis
  • PCI
  • CTO PCI

Where appropriate, the training will follow key objectives tracking to the JRCPTB 2010 Specialty curriculum for cardiology (amended 2016), but will also be tailored to the experience of the individual so is suitable for all trainees and consultants.

The TAVI, EP, CTO, PCI and structural heart stations are particularly geared towards hands-on training for senior interventional trainees/fellows and consultants.
