The BCS Annual Conference 2025 took place at Manchester Central from Monday 2 – Wednesday 4 June and was attended by over 1,760 delegates.
We were delighted to welcome so many cardiology professionals across the three-day conference with early feedback from delegates saying the conference felt busier and had a real buzz about it.
The Hot Topics sessions were once again, hugely popular, as were our new Open Careers Forums, where volunteers across a selection of specialties gave careers advice in an informal drop in session.
Conference lectures
Delegates heard from:

Professor Deborah Lawlor – ‘Providing an evidence base for pregnant women with pre-existing cardiovascular disease’

Professor Kit Yates – ‘The Maths of Life and Death’

Dr Rasha Al-Lamee – ‘Changing the face of trials in medical procedures’

Dr Charalambos Antoniades – ‘AI in cardiovascular imaging: from diagnosis to prognosis’
Women in Cardiology
The Women in Cardiology (WiC) held several exceptional sessions during the conference, including Hot Topics and their Auditorium session: The Risks of Giving Up on EDI.
This moving session was chaired by Dr Joanna Lim and Professor André Ng and included talks from Mr Nazir Afzal, Dr Sonya Babu-Narayan and Dr Christopher Begeny and finished with a standing ovation.

WiC also held an evening event at Kimpton Clocktower Hotel, which was sponsored by Medtronic and attended by over 160 delegates. The evening celebrated the incredible women in cardiology with a sit-down meal and talk from guest speaker Dr Sadia Quyam.

Education Zone
These free sessions were exclusively available to conference delegates and offered the unique opportunity to engage in hands-on training led by highly experienced practitioners and industry representatives.
This year there were 30 stations, and 739 slots booked across three days. This was broken down into:
- 19 Imaging Stations
- 16 Imaging Masterclass Stations
- 11 Simulator Stations

Abstracts
This year we received more abstract submissions than ever before, with 257 accepted across Clinical (200) and Basic & Translation (57) categories.
Posters were displayed in a designated section in the Education Hall and Best of the Best sessions took place throughout the conference. A huge congratulations are extended to this year’s winners:
- ACHD/valve disease/pericardial disease/cardiomyopathy – Dr Saadia Aslam

Your Heart Hospital
We welcomed children from a local Manchester school to take part in a dedicated ‘Your Heart Hospital’ session to understand the causes, prevention and treatment of heart disease.
During the session on Tuesday 3 June, the children learnt more about what happens in a heart attack centre and were taught practical resuscitation skills. In the afternoon, they were able to explore the wide range of careers in healthcare during small group ‘surgeries’ including specialist nursing, radiography and physiologist roles, as well as roles in medicine.
Programme Committee
Finally, a huge thank you to the Programme Committee, whose passion and enthusiasm to create the BCS Annual Conference every year is invaluable in bringing it to life.
We appreciate how much work, time, and effort goes into the conference and without you, there would be no BCS Annual Conference.

See you again next year!
