Hear from Our Leaders...

Dr Neil Swanson
Vice-President for Clinical Standards
“I have enjoyed being the BCS Vice-President of Clinical Standards over the last three years. The job is a great opportunity to get involved with the latest thinking and best practice of a very wide range of cardiovascular conditions.
Giving good quality input to a broad range of guidelines requires working with a long list of experts around the country, something that has been a pleasure.
It’s a great job for someone that believes in evidence based medicine and tries to adhere to best practice based on that evidence through well-constructed guidelines, particularly with NICE and the European Society of Cardiology.
The post also gives fascinating insight into the daily function and development of a national charity. There’s a solemn responsibility on all the vice presidents to act in the best interests of the BCS charity.”
Dr Louise Buchanan
Vice-President Elect for Professional and Society Values
“The BCS has been part of my professional life since I chose cardiology as a career many years ago. I work in a non-surgical centre in the North of England and wanted to be part of the BCS to ensure all individuals within the specialty are heard, alongside representation of women within the board setting.
During my time with the BCS, I have had the opportunity to work with forward thinking people who are extremely supportive and absolutely committed to the society. If we do want to be the true voice and face of cardiology in the UK, then it is imperative that we are inclusive. Please consider becoming involved with the BCS and contribute to making a difference for our speciality.”
Dr Ami Banerjee
Vice-President for Digital, Marketing and Communications
“I became Vice-President for Digital, Marketing, and Communications in 2022, after contributing to BCS through the Education Committee, as a speaker, and as a course organiser. It has been a privilege to work with dedicated colleagues and staff.
Notably, we developed a new website and membership platform to enhance efficiency and better serve members. My role also involves overseeing marketing, communications, the Digital/IT and Archive Committees, and contributing to cardiovascular clinical practice, education, the digital strategy, as well as representing BCS at national and international meetings. I highly recommend getting involved!”
