Governance and Committees directory
The British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) is a member led organisation. It is governed via several executive committees, and specialised committees which focus on particular areas of interest.
BCS Governance
BCS is governed by an executive board, two standing executive committees: the Operational Executive and the Professional Executive, and the BCS Council.
The BCS Board is legally responsible for the governance and strategic direction of BCS and acts as the ultimate decision-making body. Our Board is made up of elected Executive Trustees (Officers) and appointed non-executive Trustees.
Remit
Operational executive or ‘opexec’ is a frequent meeting of BCS officers and staff to discuss and monitor progress on operational matters.

Professional Executive, or ‘profexec’ is a quarterly meeting of BCS officers, staff and affiliated societies. Topics covered include:

Policy matters (interfacing with the NHS and professional bodies)
Strategic matters (the future strategy of BCS and Affiliates)

Council is the committee by which the society engages with its membership (via the elected members), its partner organisations and Affiliated Societies. Its role is to draw together the combined expertise and influence to support the objectives or the society and the delivery of cardiology to improve patient care.
