Active Bystander Training

The Active Bystander Training Company has delivered sessions to thousands of people around the world and will be running 2 bespoke workshops at BCS 2025. These sessions will be tailored to those working in Cardiology and specific situations that you may encounter in the workplace.

CLEMS (Cardiac Laboratory Emergency Medical Simulation) Course

Monday 2 June: 1030-1215/1230-1415/1515-1700; Tuesday 3 June and Wednesday 4 June: 0930-1115/1130-1315/1415-1600

An interactive simulation course with a hands on approach to routine cath lab emergencies aimed at doctors and allied health care professionals alike. Focus will be on team training, human factors and communications, and situational awareness, using high fidelity physiological simulator software. This course was referenced in the Joint British Societies’ guideline on management of cardiac arrest in the cardiac catheter laboratory published in Heart in 2022, which can be found here. Introduction to Nuclear Cardiology - Level 1

Tuesday 3 June, 0845 – 1700

It is recognised that it can be challenging for resident doctors to achieve appropriate experience in Nuclear Cardiology. The course has been designed to meet basic UK core curriculum requirements for speciality training in Cardiology, and aims to cover the Nuclear Techniques section of ESC Core Curriculum for the General Cardiologist. Interactive case-based interpretation (>50 cases) will facilitate learning and highlight current expanding clinical indications for Nuclear Cardiology techniques, e.g. amyloidosis, endocarditis, device-related infection and sarcoidosis.

Please note that this course is for resident doctors specialising in cardiology. If you do not meet the course criteria, BCS reserves the right to cancel your registration.

Lifelong Learning (LLL) Interactive Session

Tuesday 3 June: 0900 – 1230 and 1330 – 1700

2025 marks the thirteenth year that the BCS is running these highly interactive, moderated sessions that cover the range of the general cardiology curriculum and consist of 30 multiple choice questions on clinical grey cases. There are two life-long learning sessions at this year’s conference. The same set of questions will be used for both sessions. As places are limited, a £33 registration fee (non-refundable) will be charged per session. You must register for the conference to book a slot. Attendance of this slot (in addition to booking) will ensure you receive a certificate of participation.

UKMCS/mMOET: Obstetric Cardiology Emergencies

Wednesday 4 June, 1330 – 1600

During this 2.5-hour scenario-based teaching, delegates will go through training in the management of common maternal cardiology emergencies.

The course will cover:

– How to identify the deteriorating pregnant patient from normal pregnancy
– Management of cardiology emergencies in pregnancy
