Who we are
Founded in 1922, the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) has evolved into a complex organisation that plays a pivotal role in the delivery of cardiovascular health across the UK.
We currently have over 3,000 members including the majority of UK consultant cardiologists. Specialist registrars, GPs with a special interest, nurses and other professionals with an interest in cardiovascular medicine are also members. The Society became a UK Registered Charity in 2002.

What we do
Membership
The BCS is the professional society for every cardiovascular health professional, supporting your education and training needs and giving you access to a wide range of benefits, resources and support. You will be joining an established community of around 3,000 cardiovascular professionals – mostly in the UK, but also in 43 other countries, all working with the same aim of improving patient care.
Different membership categories offer a variety of benefits, including free or heavily discounted BCS conference places, reduced course fees, and free online educational materials.
Education
Covering the entire career spectrum of a cardiologist, from training through to practice. Defining the knowledge, skills and behaviours that physicians, patients, the public and accrediting bodies can reasonably expect clinical cardiologists in training to achieve and those in practice to maintain or enhance. BCS Conference
The British Cardiovascular Society Annual Conference is the UK’s leading and largest cardiovascular event. It attracts over 2,000 cardiovascular healthcare professionals, predominantly cardiologists, but also including basic and translational scientists, nurses, cardiac physiologists and scientists, and primary care staff.
On this page you will find useful documents, publications and reports including recent work of the BCS Clinical Standards Division. The remit of the division is to define and agree national clinical and professional standards for individual and organisational practice in cardiovascular healthcare, review clinical and professional standards published by national organisations and to advise on regulatory and professional matters which could affect the practice of cardiovascular healthcare in the UK. To review, and where felt appropriate, endorse guidelines and to consider and respond to issues relating to the professional clinical practice of Society members.
