BCS membership offers a wide range of opportunities for those working or interested in the field of cardiology – from networking and mentoring to educational tools and resources, and access to exceptional scientific resources to further enhance your career. Our membership provides you with the tools to develop and grow as a professional, keep up to date with the most recent sector developments, and offers huge savings across educational events and courses. You will be joining an established community of around 3,000 cardiovascular professionals – mostly in the UK, but also in 43 other countries, all working with the same aim of improving patient care.

Ordinary Membership

For consultant cardiologists, Specialty and Associate Specialist (SAS) doctors and nurses, physiologists, basic scientists and GPs with a special interest in cardiology.

Associate BJCA Membership

For cardiology resident doctors at any level who are already members of British Junior Cardiologists’ Association (BJCA).

Why join the BCS membership?

BCS membership offers you great opportunities to engage with the wider cardiology community in the UK and worldwide. 

As a BCS member you receive free or heavily discounted early bird registration to our annual conference, discounted registration to our courses and free access to an array of online resources such as our video library, Heart journal and ESC Textbook.

You also have the opportunity to take part in our Emerging Leaders Programme and Mentoring programme

I am a cardiologist/doctor training in cardiology residing abroad, which membership should I apply for?

As a cardiologist or trainee cardiologist based outside of the UK, you should apply for our Online membership.

I completed my cardiology training, how do I update my membership?

If you completed your cardiology training you are no longer entitled to our Associate BJCA membership.

You can change your membership category from your BCS profile and in your settings, cancel your current membership and select the Ordinary membership on the paywall. 

I am a medical student, can I apply for BCS membership?

We offer membership for students from Foundation year 1, which is the Associate BJCA membership.

If you are an undergraduate with an interest in Cardiology, you can join the British Undergraduate Cardiovascular Association (BUCA)

I am retired/retiring, do you offer a membership discount?

Emeritus membership is our free membership to fully retired members.

Please be advised that you can only apply for this membership if you are no longer working for the NHS or privately.

Please email [email protected] to request updating your membership to Emeritus member.

What is Honorary membership?

Honorary membership is awarded by the BCS to recognise a significant contribution to the field of cardiology. It indicates to colleagues and patients that the member is part of a group of professionals whose high standing in the field has been recognised by their peers.

This membership category can not be applied for.

I work less than full time/I am on parental leave, do you offer a discount?

Unfortunately, we don’t currently offer a discounted membership fee for those working less than full time, on parental leave or on a career break. 

How much is a BCS membership?

We offer 4 types of membership:

  • Ordinary membership = £344
  • Associate BJCA membership = £ 146
  • Affiliate membership = £58
  • Online membership = £115
Which membership category should I apply for?

How do I pay for my membership?

For those in the UK: payment is made by Direct Debit via GoCardless.

For those outside the UK: payment is made by card via Stripe

The BCS membership period is for 12 months and payment is collected annually. We don’t offer monthly payments.

How do I renew my membership?

Your membership is renewed once a year via your Direct Debit mandate. You will receive an email notification 7 days prior to your membership expiry date.

If paying by card you will also receive a notification email with a new payment link to renew your membership.

How do I subscribe to printed Heart Journal?

BCS members benefit from a heavily discounted subscription fee to the printed Heart journal.

To subscribe login to your profile, go to your settings and Membership, cancel your current membership, and in the paywall, select your membership + Heart journal.
