About us

The BCS aims to support and represent all those working in the fields of cardiovascular care and research.

Who we are

Founded in 1922, the BCS plays a pivotal role in the delivery of cardiovascular health across the UK, supporting and representing all those working in the fields of cardiovascular care and research. We do this through our educational activities, our key roles in the organisation of cardiology training and production of clinical guidelines, and our input into national policy.

We currently have over 3,000 members, including consultant cardiologists, resident cardiologists, nurses, GPs with a special interest in cardiology, non-clinical scientists and technicians. The BCS is also affiliated with 21 organisations working in specific areas of cardiovascular medicine, health and patient care. Together, we provide a powerful voice for UK cardiovascular healthcare professionals.

The BCS became a registered charity in 2002 and our officers all serve in a voluntary capacity. The BCS is run for and with its members: our staff manage the day to day running of the organisation, but the strategic direction of the Society is set by officers and members on our Board and key committees.

What we do

Membership

The BCS supports cardiovascular health professionals by offering education, resources, and benefits. With over 3,000 members worldwide, it provides discounted conference access, course fees, and free educational materials through various membership categories.

Education

BCS offers courses covering a cardiologist’s entire career, from training to practice. It defines expected skills for trainees and professionals. Members receive discounted registration fees for many courses available on the website.

BCS Conference

The British Cardiovascular Society Annual Conference is the UK’s leading and largest cardiovascular event. It attracts over 2,000 cardiovascular healthcare professionals, predominantly cardiologists, but also including basic and translational scientists, nurses, cardiac physiologists and scientists, and primary care staff.

This page offers documents, publications, and reports from the BCS Clinical Standards Division, which defines national standards, reviews guidelines, and advises on regulatory matters affecting cardiovascular healthcare in the UK, supporting members’ professional clinical practice.

Our Partners

The British Cardiovascular Society values strong collaboration with industry and is grateful that this facilitates delivery of the annual conference and our wider educational agenda. This benefits our membership, affiliated bodies, clinicians, researchers and patients.
