Opportunities for BCS members
Elected positions
BCS officer and committee member roles are filled by a mix of elected positions and appointments. Successful candidates are usually in position for a period of three years, enabling you to embed yourself fully into the role.
For our presidential and vice-presidential roles, elections are held more than one year before the role starts, enabling an ‘elect’ period of a year so that the incoming candidate can get a feel for the role and receive a full handover.
Resident Doctor Representatives
To ensure our committees have a broad representation of voices from across the profession, we actively appoint resident doctor representatives and aim to have two in position at any one time.
We believe it’s important that the opinions of resident doctors are part of the conversations we’re having and help direct the work we’re doing.
Staff vacancies
Why work at BCS?
The BCS is a professional body and membership society for those working in cardiovascular medicine in the UK. We have over 3,000 members, with membership growing steadily. The BCS aims to support and represent all those working in the fields of cardiovascular care and research.
We are a small friendly staff team of about 22 staff who work closely together across a range of departments and activities. We do from time to time have vacancies, especially as we expand our activities. We operate a hybrid working model with most full-time staff working 2 days a week from our central London HQ. We are committed to encouraging inclusion, equity and diversity in our workforce and welcome applications from individuals from under-represented groups to better reflect the community we serve and to help broaden our perspectives.
We offer a range of staff benefits including a 35 hour working week, 25 days annual leave a year and closure over the Christmas and New Year period. More details can be found as part in the job descriptions for vacant posts.
Vacancies will be advertised below.

As the oldest cardiovascular society in the world, and the national society representing UK cardiologists, the BCS is host to a collection of museum, archive and library items dating back to its beginnings. Our heritage collections provide a unique insight into British Cardiology and the way it has shaped the development of cardiovascular medicine across the world. The museum, archive and library collections are housed in the Society’s offices at 9 Fitzroy Square, London. Exhibited over several floors, the main rooms are named after pioneers of British cardiology: James Mackenzie, Thomas Lewis and Paul Wood. The collection conveys the history of the Society and specialty.
